| INTERIOR DESIGN LEGISLATION |
TITLE ACT
[General Definition]
A State Title Act prohibits the use of a title, which in some states may be “Registered Interior Designer” or "Certified Interior Designer", to those designers who have passed the NCIDQ examination and received certification as a licensed interior designer.
PRACTICE ACT
[General Definition]
Practice Act legislation for interior design serves a duo-fold purpose. If a state adopts a Practice Act, they put into effect legislation that prohibits the act of practicing the professional services of interior design from those who are not licensed in the profession. The practice act also regulates the use of titles such as “licensed interior designer” or “registered interior designer” as well as the use of terms such as “interior design services”. This is the strongest form of regulation to ensure the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare.
