Pratt: Opening Reception of Naomi Leff Exhibition
President Thomas F. Schutte and Board of Trustees Chair Mike Pratt invite you to attend the opening reception for Naomi Leff: Interior Design, a presentation of the Pratt Institute President's Exhibition Series.
Curated by Donald Albrecht
JUNE 19-SEPTEMBER 13, 2008
OPENING RECEPTION: JUNE 18, 2008, 6-8 PM
Great rooms can tell stories and cast spells. No one understood this better than Naomi Leff (1938-2005), for whom interior design was a narrative art. Leff's interiors were opulently, sometimes even fantastically, imagined stage sets that elevated ordinary activities-shopping and conducting business meetings, for example-to the level of theater. As the head of her own New York City-based firm from 1980 until her death, Leff rejected a signature style, preferring instead to create interiors that evoked a wide range of different periods, places, and moods, from American Colonial to Art Deco. Naomi Leff: Interior Design will be the first exhibition to explore the work of this remarkable designer and will include photographs, furniture, and objects from Leff's personal collection and those of her clients, as well as video presentations devoted to signature projects for such companies as Polo/Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani.
The exhibition design was completed by current graduate interior design students Clair Blocker, Tasha Clarkson, Icis Charles, Julia Lane Koral, Jennifer Lugones, Kristin Riccio, and Simon Spelling who explored Leff?s career through eight major projects as part of the ?Exhibition Design Intensive? course led by professor Jon Otis.
