Design 4 Healthcare is a series of four programs, each one introducing new products and featuring an extraordinary design firm committed to collaborative, innovative and new research driven initiatives. On Wednesday, March 10, HOK will present and discuss an exciting new component of the Harlem Hospital Modernization Project.
Art and Architecture: Impacting the Environment, the Community and the People Who Interact in the Hospital Each Day
A key element for the Harlem Hospital Modernization Project will be a 65 foot high, 12,000 square foot glass façade that will feature images extracted from a WPA mural painted in 1934 by Vertis Hayes illustrating the story of African Diaspora from the 18th century to the first half of the 20th century. The images from the paining, titled The Pursuit of Happiness, will be the communicative skin of the building. The original mural has been restored and will be installed in a gallery directly below the glass façade and will be visible from the street.
