Source to Surface is an IIDA NY Catalyst initiative connecting manufacturers, dealers, liquidators, corporations, and design firms with surplus products to community-based nonprofits that can put them to use. The goal is to reduce waste, support the community, and make quality commercial products accessible to organizations doing meaningful work.

Seating, desks and tables, storage and filing, lighting, flooring, applied finishes, rugs, décor and accessories. Anything commercial or contract grade that still has life in it.

Manufacturers, dealers, liquidators, corporations, and design firms — along with individual designers who have quality commercial products to pass on.

Community-based nonprofits serving New York City. Organizations must be registered 501(c)(3)s and complete our application before browsing listings. We prioritize organizations working directly with underserved communities across the five boroughs.

Listings are located throughout New York City. Each listing shows its pickup neighborhood so you can judge whether it's practical before requesting.
For Nonprofits

You'll need to be a registered 501(c)(3) with an EIN, based in or primarily serving New York City. Source to Surface is intended for community-based organizations — groups working directly with the people they serve, rather than national organizations or institutions with established furnishings budgets.

Click Here to complete the application. You'll be asked for your EIN and a link to your 501(c)(3) determination letter. Once reviewed and approved, you'll receive an access code by email.

Applications are reviewed by the IIDA NY Catalyst Committee. Expect a response within one week.

No. Everything is donated free of charge. Nonprofits are responsible for arranging and paying for transportation, so factor that in when considering larger items.

Browse the gallery, click "Request This Item," and enter your access code. You'll be taken to a short request form. A volunteer reviews requests within one week, then introduces you directly to the donor by email so you can arrange pickup.

Yes — keep the email. You'll enter the same code for each request.

Requests are reviewed in the order received. Some listings have multiple units available, and the quantity shown updates as items are claimed.
For Donors

Click "Donate" at the top of the gallery. You'll provide photos, a description, quantity, condition, dimensions, pickup location, and a pickup deadline.

Yes — the photo upload step requires signing in to a free Google account. This is a Google requirement for file uploads. If that's a problem, contact us at iidanycatalyst@gmail.com and we'll help.

Good, Excellent, or Like New — clean, functional, and free of significant damage. Products should be commercial or contract grade.

You'll receive a confirmation email with a reference number. A volunteer reviews your listing within one week, and you'll be emailed again once it's live in the gallery.

The nonprofit recipient is responsible for coordinating pickup directly with the donor. Once a match is confirmed, both parties will be introduced via email to arrange logistics.

Until the pickup deadline you set. If you don't give one, listings run for 30 days. You're welcome to resubmit anything that doesn't find a match.

Yes — enter the full quantity on the form and the listing will show how many remain as items are claimed. If you're clearing an entire floor or have many different items, email us at iidanycatalyst@gmail.com and we'll work with you directly.
